Case study on the Environment sustainability in fishermen's community

The 30-year-old native of the fisherman community where Christianity is strongly believed. He is well educated in software engineering and currently working as a Software engineer. His spouse is a housewife as well as a student. They are from a middle-income family with a well-equipped home consisting of 7 members. His father is the head of the family.

They are completely unaware of the difference between waste and resources but lack proper implementation techniques to dispose of waste. He and his family usually dump or burn plastic materials. The e-waste and glasses after use is been collected by refuse collectors near their locality. His concept of a resource converting to waste is due to its long-term use. Non-biodegradable waste collectors like 'Haritha Sena' are not visiting their houses these days. One of the reasons for the lack of waste management in coastal communities is due to irresponsible behaviour on the part of local self-government.

He comments that "Coastal area is low lying areas and therefore during monsoon the drainages fill up. The canals will be full and life of people will be difficult. This can happen due to inaccurate constructions of canals facing houses. Everything in the open space of the house is flooded. Many infectious diseases are caused due to this flooding. In this water, mosquitoes breed causing vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever, chicken guinea etc. It does not matter if you study only the people here. All the poultry wastes are deposited in the sea by the poultry owners."
